Introduction:

So you live in India, and you are willing to create a blog. Is it something you are interested in or you just want to make some money?

In this article, I will talk about how you can create a blog from scratch using WordPress.

Now you must be like why everyone is talking about WordPress?

WordPress is the king when it comes to CMS. If you do not know what is a CMS, it stands for a content management system.

WordPress is nothing but a content management system. Just like you share content on Facebook using the in-built content management system for users.

You can also share content using WordPress on your website or a blog.

What is a blog?

The blog is nothing more than a website, but the content on a blog shall always be helpful and it should always be in a conversational tone.

Just like you and me talking about your experience over a coffee.

Can I start a blog?

Anyone with basic knowledge about the internet can start a blog. But not too many can be successful. To become a successful blogger, you must be experienced and passionate about the niche.

Now you must be like, what is a niche now?

A niche is a topic or subject that your blog revolves around. Just like my blog is revolving around blogging tips, Facebook ads, digital marketing, etc.

If you think that you have a certain niche that you are experienced or passionate about you can surely start a blog.

Now that you are quite familiar with the blogging world, let’s find out how we can start a money-making blog in India.

How to Start a Blog in India:

  1. Niche Research (Which niche to go with)
  2. Select Name ( A catchy badass name)
  3. Select Platform (WordPress is preferred)
  4. Buy a Domain
  5. Buy a Hosting
  6. Install CMS
  7. Install Theme
  8. Generate 25 topics
  9. Write 25 Articles
  10. Monetize the blog
  11. Repeat 8-10 again and again
  12. Marketing Your Blog

Niche Research:

Niche research is the foundation of blogging. Why? Because if you have zero knowledge about a topic or you have no interest in a topic, how would you write about it?

Let’s say you can write by surfing Google, but would that be a genuine piece? NO! And Google hates such activities.

Again a lot of my students ask, “Which niche should I go for”?

I answer them, combine your passion + your knowledge + what people are looking for.

Just find out what you are good at, let’s say it is biking. Now find what people are looking for inside the biking niche and make content on those topics.

Things are getting more interesting here, aren’t they?

Now let me tell you how exactly you can do it. Let’s assume cooking is your interest and passion. You also have a lot of experience in cooking and you are 100% sure that you can answer any questions about this topic.

Now, let’s find out what people are looking for inside the cooking niche.

Go to Google and type your niche keywords, i.e  “cooking tips”

Now go to the bottom of the search results page, you will find something like this.

These are the keywords that people search for inside your niche. You can pick any keyword and search again then go to the bottom of the page to see more keywords.

You can also go to Quora.com and search your niche keywords and check what people are asking about your niche in Quora.

Here are a few topics you can use to start with.  For advanced research you can use Google Keyword Planner, Keyword tool.io, AHREF or SEMRUSH.

Now that you have learned how to select a niche and find some topics let’s move to decide the name of your niche blog.

As we already know that here we are using, ‘COOKING’ niche as an example.

Go to LeanDomainSearch and put your keywords in the search box.

As you can see, 2780 available cooking-related domains that can be purchased and used as a blog name.

Now you must be thinking, but which name is best for me?

Well, that is something you must decide. But I have some tips to share with you.

  • Do not choose a long tail name (JustCooking.com is better than CookingForBeginersinIndia.com)
  • Do not use the exact match keyword (BloggingBox.com is better than howtostartabloginIndia.com
  • Make sure it is brandable (i.e Twitter, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Make sure it is short (Trello, Google, Sony, Dell)
  • Make sure it is easy to pronounce (Cookster.com is better than cookeresteng.com)
  • .Com domain is always the best option

I hope you have a clear idea about choosing a name now.

Selecting the right platform:

The available platform for blogging

  • Blogger (FREE)
  • WordPress (PAID)
  • Quora (FREE)
  • Tumblr (FREE)
  • Medium (FREE)
  • LinkedIn Articles (FREE)

What I prefer?

WordPress all the time!

Why? Because we are talking about a money-making blog. To earn a passive income with blogging you must spend some money to make it look professional.

Some bloggers are like dude! Blogger is always free why do we pay for a WordPress hosting, Domain, and SSL??

For your information, Blogger takes almost 30% of your entire advertising revenue every month when you use their platform.

I hate sharing my blog revenue that’s why I use WordPress. Moreover, WordPress is a very user-friendly platform that has a lot more features than any other CMS out there.

You can go and ask any professional digital marketing expert, they will suggest you WordPress. Why? Because it has an inbuilt plugin system that helps us to do SEO with ease.

Now that you have finalized the platform let’s move to domain purchase.

Purchasing a Domain Name:

There are a lot of companies that provide domain and hosting services.

Right now I am using Hostinger. Why? Because it has a user-friendly dashboard and getting a website ready only takes 10 minutes.

Don’t believe me? Watch this video to better understand.

Purchasing a Hosting:

Make sure you purchase a WordPress hosting if you are willing to use WordPress as your CMS. I use the premium  WordPress hosting of Hostinger.

You can decide your hosting as per your choice.

The reason behind using Hostinger hosting is, they provide you with a lifetime SSL certificate that is normally chargeable for all the other hosting providers.

Apart from that, the support is really responsive and the ease of use is 10 out of 10. You can check the video above to see how I am setting up a WordPress blog within 10 minutes using Hostinger.

Installing CMS (WordPress):

You have to add the purchased domain name inside your hosting panel by simply clicking the add website button in Hostinger Hosting Panel.

If you are using any other company then ask their customer support to guide you.

When you see this screen just enter your domain name, give a random password that you can remember, and hit the add button.

You can now find your website added to the hosting section.

Now go ahead and click manage.

When you click on manage, you can literally see the entire backend panel of your hosted website or blog.

It would look something like this. Now scroll down 3 times and you will find Auto Installer icon.

Click on the auto-installer. And you will see something like this.

Click on the WordPress icon.

You will see something like this. Don’t panic. Just put a username and password exactly like when you open a social media account.  And click install.

Wait for 60 seconds. Then the installation will be finished. After the installation is done, your website or blog is ready to go!

To access your blog use   www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin  (use your domain name)

Put your username and password and hit enter.

Now your website is live on the internet.  We are done with domain and hosting. We are also done with installing WordPress.

It’s time to choose a theme.

Choosing a WordPress theme:

This is something that I call is a personal preference. Because different people have different preference over colors and fonts.

What you can do is, you can go ahead and search for the trending blogs inside your niche and see what kind of themes they are using. And you can take them as inspiration.

Now if you ask my advice I use generate press, Astra and Colormag mostly

You can go to the themes page by clicking on appearance tab and then themes to add a theme to your WordPress blog.

Now the question that probably pops in your mind is, shall I buy a paid theme? Yes, absolutely if you can afford it.  But if you can’t afford it then use a free theme until you make some money from the blog.

But make sure in a later stage, use a premium looking paid theme. Because some visitors return to your website by seeing your functionalities and layout.

Generating 25 Content Ideas:

Here are a few tools you can use to generate content ideas in the initial phase.

  1. Quora
  2. AnswerthePublic
  3. Google Question Hub
  4. Pinterest
  5. Google Keyword Planner
  6. Google Trends
  7. ContentStudio (PAID)

Make sure you choose keywords that have low difficulty. The search volume can be somewhere around 200-1000 at the start. Do not go beyond that because old giants must be targeting those keywords.

You can use SEM RUSH to check keyword difficulty.

Write 25 Articles:

Do not panic by hearing 25 articles. They are not too much. But yes in the initial phase it might take you 2 months. Hereby saying 2 months I am pointing towards quality article with proper step by step description.

  1. Do not copy-paste your article from other sites
  2. Do not share thin content below 300 words
  3. Do not write on topics you don’t have any idea
  4. Do not try to compete with large size blogs

Monetizing The Blog:

Keep publishing articles one by one once they are complete. At last, when you reach the sweet spot which is 25, apply for monetization.

I would suggest you go with Google Adsense here because it is the best ad network for bloggers. It is trusted and pays in time.

Apart from Google Adsense you can choose these monetization methods as well

  • Amazon Affiliate
  • CJ Affiliate
  • Sponsored Posts
  • Selling Courses
  • Selling Services
  • Selling Ad Space

Repeat the tasks:

Now that you have a blog that earns money in autopilot when people visit it make sure you repeat the entire process again. But this time the setup is already done.

All you need to do is start publishing more and more articles. From 10-100 visitors a day you will reach 1000 visitors a day and finally, you can earn a decent amount of money every month.

Marketing Your Blog:

Last but not least let’s talk about marketing your blog a little bit.

You have a blog that has valuable information, but what if nobody sees that information? All the hard work will go in vain right?

Here are a few tips to marketing your blog for FREE:

  • Start learning SEO and implement it
  • Share informational articles with related Facebook and LinkedIn groups
  • Publish answers in Quora with your article link
  • Start a YouTube Channel and promote your blog
  • Connect with other bloggers and build a network
  • Start collecting emails on your blog
  • Send newsletters to visitors
  • Create a Facebook group for your readers
  • Create a telegram channel for your readers

Well, that’s almost everything I wanted to share with you about how you can start a blog staying in India in 2020 and make passive income from home during this pandemic.

This is not a get rich quick scheme, so do not enter into a blogging career if you are not willing to contribute to society with all the knowledge and experience you have.

Once you repeat what I taught you in this article, you will surely reach a level where you can earn a decent income every single month.
